Keep that Indian Summer vibe going by coming down the September DETUNE at Rockshots on Sat 26th with yet another awesome lineup…..
BEN STUNT kicks off proceedings, with his first appearance at the new place. Get down early or he’ll give you a bad haircut……
Then we get back to where it all started with the guys who made it all happen – RHYTHM PLATE – from Detune, to Groove Armada compilations, to appearances on CSI Miami, their prolific workrate and consistently quality tuneage makes them a must see for C-town next weekend. Forget the young pretenders – these guys are the real deal!
…..and yet another top catch next weekend is House FM’s JANE FITZ – making the journey from the big smoke, and architect of London’s Underground Peg Parties, Jane’s sure to carve up the floor ’til late doors
Look out for the mailshot later in the week, and spread the word……
Just been reading over at Chesterfield Forums that despite the recession and general economic downturn, Chesterfield Council have bought a new Lexus for the mayor.
At a time when all the talk is of the council tax going up and not enough money in the coffers to deliver promised services, how insensitive, greedy and smug could these powers-that-be get?
Local taxi driver, nickname Fly, saw the new black Lexus yesterday and noticed that it had the personalised number plate from the Jaguar limosine that quite adequately served the borough well for many years.
Whilst I realise that many infant school kids have painting competitions to be judged, I wonder whether Chesterfield’s equivalent of fat-cat bankers taking bonuses whilst plunging the country in huge, huge amounts of debt is entirely appropriate.
Leading by example? Not a bit of it. Following the example of those arrogant bastards that caused the biggest recession since WW2 – Yes!
Weeeeell, it’s been a couple of months since DETUNE went for it BIG style with INLAND KNIGHTS, Robbo & Laura have been away all July, so I bet you’re all GAGGING FOR IT now??
Not like us to disappoint either, we’re having a Residents Party packed with the best local talent, and, as a big thank you to everyone who made the 6th Birthday such a special day for us all, it’s completely FREE ENTRY all night!!
Yet another reason to celebrate with us is Crooked’s decision to leave Elements, thanks to the minger of a Manager there thinking it a good idea to f*ck over the only night that’s kept them going for the last year!
In a befuddling inexplicable move (even by her low standards!), this will surely lead to the demise of the club, and I’m certain people will be lining up to take a pop. I can only express my concern for the people whose jobs are now at risk, thanks to the social & managemental ineptitude of this sorry excuse of a woman. Jim will no doubt take Crooked onwards and upwards though, to the benefit of the scene in Chesterfield.
Back to DETUNE – Robbo’ll be all fresh from fromage and pain du chocolat & should storm the decks early on. Lee Anthony’s first outting since March sees the Minimal Magician making his mark again, and DJ Matt Grant grins and grabs the grande slot last off……
Well here it is, folks – the culmination of 6 fabulous years of work and play – a rollercoaster of emotions, fantastic music, friends new and old.
I’m very proud to present for the first time in Chesterfield (and DETUNE) in their glittering careers…..
INLAND KNIGHTS!!!
Detune Chesterfield - Inland Knights
Since cutting their teeth DJ’ing with Smokescreen – the renegade soundsystem from which they drew their inspiration in the early 90’s – the Nottingham-based duo traversed the globe and made the inevitable step into production just a few years later, forming the Drop Music label, remixing the likes of Faithless (amongst others), and went on to become one of the most respected production outfits in the World!
It’s an absolute honour to get one of House Music’s finest here – an outfit that epitomise everything DETUNE’s about, so if you’ve been on Mars or summat, and never checked us or them out, this’ll be a great place to start……
You can get Inland Knights sound & vision here….
www.myspace.com/inlandknightsdropmusic
Tickets are now in Hudsons Music in the Market Place, Chesterfield at £7 plus £1 booking fee, or you can mail me on here and sort it through paypal, but we’re expecting this to sell out, so PLEASE grab one early to avoid disappointment – very much doubt you’ll just be able to turn up on the door.
Adding further weight to the bill are DETUNE favourites Inbetween DJs from Liverpool – themselves regulars at the amazing ETC clubnight in the current European City of Culture, signed to Detroit House Label Wallshaker, host their own regular radio show, and are generously providing the mix for the DETUNE 6th Birthday CD that all ticket holders will get a copy of, along with a selection of DETUNE-themed goodies on the night!

As well as the aforementioned groovefest, you’ll be pleased to know resident Robbo will be kicking off proceedings early on, and we’ll be shooting a promo video on the night so we can take the DETUNE experience to new shores later in the year, so make sure you’re all wearing your bestest smiles and your lucky pants…….
Thanks to everyone who comes down for all your continued support again this year, and a special thanks firstly to Nathan & Andrea at Joplins for rescuing us after the piss-off-thistle-licking bulldog at Elements ripped us off in the Summer, and to Robbo and Laura at Rockshots for their support this year…….
After this fantastic recent spell of weather, and a new moon beckoning next Saturday, who could hope for anything else but April’s DETUNE to further warm yer cockles, folks?
True to form, we’ve got yet another star-studded lineup of local and Nationally acclaimed talent to follow Audiopunk’s Marc Jay rocking da shotz off the place last month!
Nice to welcome back Mr CARLO GAMBINO to our hallowed decks this time – as well as stints out in Ibiza with Carl Cox, he’s also wooed the floors of Purrfect, Mission & Wire in Leeds, but won, to great acclaim in December – the I-DJ Raw Talent Competition with his Mix “Talk is Cheap”
There’s so much to be said for Carlo, but this weekend just gone, he competed at SEone in London against 500 other contestants to win a slot at the Sneakerz Muzik Festival in Holland in September…..
It’s an absolute honour of to have one of the nicest blokes in the scene back in C-town – you can get links to all his mixes, and catch up with his exploits in London and elsewhere on his Facebook DJ Page here…..
PAUL GROWNS & MATT HOUSLEY (Subject* DJs) take time out from their busy Sheffield schedule – including the likes of Diasha at Penelopes, Bio on West St, Mango Sessions, and Matlock’s Wobble to grace us with their presence again, and will be sure to mix it up like a small family of sperm whales in a blender, OH yes!
DJB’s been playing out in the Sheffield scene too, and we’ve also seen him lately at REPLAY – again at Rockshots, but after years of carving up the dancefloor of DETUNE with his crazy moves, this will be his DEBUT behind the decks, so come down and give t’old lad a BIG DETUNE WELCOME, eh?
It’s free before half 10 anyways, so it’s up to you to get down early, and with competitive bar prices to boot (thanks to Robbo and Laura) – as opposed to gimmicky B.O.G.O.F offers, extra-mature doorstops of stilton music policies, and dancing on tables with your favourite pair of fairy wings, you know what makes sense……
Very exciting news about DETUNE’s 6th Birthday next month is that we’ve bagged the cream of the scene – INLAND KNIGHTS – after all this time, and what an honour it will be to have them here too – the likes of which Chesterfield has never seen – tickets will be onsale in Hudsons in a couple of weeks’ time, so make sure you get in there early, and buy a ticket to avoid disappointment or you just won’t get in!!
Had a brilliant night out in Brampton last night. It was my daughter’s birthday – and we all like Brampton for its pubs and restaurants.
Met in the Oak on the end of Chester Street, good natured crowd of lads full of it after our win over Port Vale in the afternoon. Had a beer and moved up to the Zahid Indian Restaurant for the birthday celebration. Everyone got absolutely stuffed with food and we left after a couple of hours to settle in the Alma for drinks, a game of pool or two and general chill-out chatting. Incidentally, they have a very nice heated area out back for the smokers.
There’s nothing better than a night out with your mates, have a few pints and see a good live band.
There isn’t an abundance of bands, or even gigs for bands these days, so hats-off to the Market for putting the Pitz on tonight.
If you haven’t seen them you are in for a pleasant surprise. The Pitz are a local guitar band playing mostly music from the sixties, Dylan, Beatles, Stones, etc.
Nothing fancy, just a bunch of skilled musos with a musical pedigree as long as your arm. If you ever see them advertised – give ‘em a go, you won’t regret it.
A few years ago I did some work for Alfreton based company Butterley Engineering. This morning I read that the company has called in administrators Grant Thornton and over half the work force is to go.
Sad times – and also the possible end of a much respected company that has been in business since 1790.
Quote of the day comes from spireiteblue on the CFC Football Forums:
Wake up Hubbard
Wake up Hubbard if you are happy with that rubbish we sat through today then you can get out as well and take your money with you,i am fuming after watching such a dire game,Barnet are the lowest of the low and we matched them all the way today,i expect better from a Chesterfield team and if we are going to follow in the trend of the Barnets of this world then you can count me out,i could easily have gone home at half time, sort it or go
New film, The Damned Utd, partly shot at Satergate, is to be released on 27 March.
This film, about Brian Clough and his 44 days as manager of Leeds, had the on-field action shots filmed at Saltergate.
The ground had a makeover to suit the period and locals were used as extras – and with the new football stadium coincidentally in the news this week, it may be that the film becomes part of a record of a bygone era in Chesterfield’s football past.
Chesterfield Football Club have finally been given the land on which the new stadium will be built.
Blues Chairman Barrie Hubbard was officially handed the land by Neil Hartley from Wilson Bowden, the company who acquired the former Dema Glass site on Sheffield Road.
It is hoped that the club will move there for the 2010/11 season.
