Chesterfield

Chesterfield is a market town in Derbyshire, 12 miles south of Sheffield, our nearest city and 23 miles north of Derby. We have a population of around a quarter of a million inhabitants, Chesterfield was once home to George Stephenson and now boasts an impressive statue of him out side the Chesterfield railway station.

Chesterfield also lends its name to a piece of furniture, the Chesterfield Sofa, although the name does not come from any association with the town of Chesterfield.

The town is also associated with the Earls of Chesterfield, a peerage created in 1628, and many an important Earl has been at the forefront of great historical events in England.
